Geodynamics of orogen corners

Collaborators from Geophysics group are helping to bring more clarity to the complicated tectonic history. In the long term, the results will be coupled to biodiversity and/or climate models. One project trying to better understand the complex tectonic history of the Hengduan area is that of the doctoral student Luuk van Agtmaal in which he explores 3D regional geodynamic models coupled to surface processes. The aim is to study the strongly curved structure of the eastern corner of the India-Eurasia collision zone which likely formed the Hengduan Mountains.
