Tectonic, topographic and climate history of the Hengduan Mountain Region

How this very scientifically interesting area was created, what tectonic forces and kinematics generated such contrasting landscape are questions that we aim to answer. One doctoral project focusing on these tectonic dynamics questions and the topographic and climatic evolution of this collision zone region, is that of the doctoral student Thomas Schouten. He focuses on reconstructing tectonic, topographic, and climatic changes that occurred in the Tibetan-Himalayan orogen during the Cenozoic, with particular attention to the Hengduan Mountains.
