Geomorphic Characteristics and Evolution of the Hengduan Mountain Region

Being a region so contrasting, diverse, and complex in topography with a complicated and still not fully understood evolution, a regional geomorphic analysis of the Hengduan Mountain Region is one fascinating and necessary project. This is what Katrina Gelwick is focusing on in her doctoral project, to determine how surface processes and tectonics have sculpted the landscape over time in Hengduan Mountains. She is also conducting a localized geomorphic analysis of the Anning- Dadu River capture area that will be used in combination with detailed biological data to evaluate hypothesized links between geologic processes and biodiversity.
